I chose Girl On Fire by Alicia Keys as this week’s Feminine Soul Song of the Week because I felt it mirrors the rich complexity of a woman’s journey.  This powerful song captures the depth of spirit and passion it takes for a woman to refine her feminine soul.  I don’t know about you, but I find myself most “on fire” when I’m stretching to be the best of what I was born to be.  During these times, I’m both feeling motivated, inspired…like I can burn through any challenge AND simultaneously aware of the vulnerability to the heat the world brings that can throw me off course. 

The idea of being a “girl on fire” speaks to the powerful force a determined, passionate woman on a mission presents.  A woman with her sights set on a single point of focus can blaze a trail to places once thought impossible.  It also points to the searing pain of disappointment, fear and frustration when life presents obstacles that threaten to thwart a woman’s desired goal. 

I like how the message of this song even goes past the lyrics.  The consistent and constant drum beat is a metaphor for the patient, deliberate “one foot in front of the other” approach required to keep your fire burning when you feel too tired to take another step.  Never allow your fire to be extinguished.  Connect with other visionary feminine souls and stoke the coals that will keep you a girl on fire too!
